Heroes: Season 3 Premiere – Live-Blogging Now

See below for the non-widget transcript …

8:59
Jane Boursaw: Hey, Heroes fans! Thanks for stopping by our live blog!

When last we left the heroes, Nathan, Matt and Hiro had confronted Peter and Adam at the Company’s facility in Odessa, Texas, where Adam’s intentions were revealed. Micah confides in his mom, and they set off to rescue Monica. It ended badly. Maya and Sylar visited Dr. Suresh, and she finally realized what Sylar was really up to. Noah Bennet visited his family and begged Claire not to publicly reveal her secret.

9:00
Jane Boursaw: Anybody as geeked as I am? :-)
9:01
Jane Boursaw: Ooh, Claire’s all grown up…
9:06
Jane Boursaw: I’m sorry?! The doc says, “I’m sorry?!” Hmmm…is he really dead…? Ah, I thought so!
9:07
Jane Boursaw: Well, so far they’ve brought us up to speed on a few of the storylines. Clearly, I should have watched the last ep of last season. It’ll take me a few minutes to figure out what’s what here.
9:08
[Comment From Keith McDuffee]
Saw this episode at Comic-Con in July (along with thousands of others). I didn’t care for season 2, but this made me want to watch again.
9:09
Jane Boursaw: Yeah, season 2 went off track for me, too.
9:11
Jane Boursaw: Hiro: “It’s not like destiny is going to come knocking at my door…”
9:12
[Comment From Bob Sassone]
I think Syler was speaking for fans re: season 2 too, heh
9:13
Jane Boursaw: No doubt!
9:14
Jane Boursaw: Ok, this is a creepy scene. Any time a young girl has a knife in her hands in a dark room…with a creepy guy…
9:15
Jane Boursaw: Ok, what was the deal with Molly? Where’d he send her off to? Anyone remember?
9:17
Jane Boursaw: Fight or flight, the adrenal levels…ah, a lightbulb’s going on in Mohinder’s head. Of course it involves a large syringe.
9:20
Jane Boursaw: He told Hiro not to open the safe! “The light to safeguard against the darkness…” I’m having a “Lord of the Rings” flashback.
9:21
Jane Boursaw: Whoa, nice effect with the long, satiny…thing…
9:22
Jane Boursaw: This chick is clearly in a hurry…
9:23
Jane Boursaw: Wait…what? Peter came back from the future…?
9:25
How is this ep going so far?

9:26
Bob Sassone: Yeah, I think Nathan telling the world starts something bad happening, so Peter came from the future to stop him. Though he probably could have just pulled him aside and talked to him…
9:26
Jane Boursaw: Bob – Yeah, seems rather harsh, doesn’t it?
9:29
Jane Boursaw: Ok, the film crew follows him into a church…hmmm…
9:30
Bob Sassone: Oh no they’re adding yet another cast member…GOD.
9:30
Jane Boursaw: Bob – Yeah, but it’s all worth it because God has a message of hope and urgency – we’re all connected, our hopes, our dreams, etc., etc.
9:31
Jane Boursaw: And speaking of which…there DOES seem to be a lot of cast members these days, isn’t there? Even for die-hard fans, it’s getting hard to keep track of everyone.
9:34
Jane Boursaw: Ok, that scene with Claire was pretty intense.
9:36
Jane Boursaw: Here’s the thing. I watched the one-hour premiere that aired right before this show. They were talking it up on how this would be a fresh start for the series, and how viewers wouldn’t need to have watched the series and know the characters. I’m tellin’ ya, anyone who hasn’t watched the series and doesn’t know the characters is lost about now.
9:38
Jane Boursaw: Claire: “Are you going to eat it?” Syler: “Eat your brain? Claire, that’s disgusting.”
9:39
Jane Boursaw: Talk about a brain transplant…
9:40
Bob Sassone: OK, I’m confused. Yet intrigued.
9:40
Jane Boursaw: Me, too. Soooo…now Syler can never die, just as Claire can never die…hmmm…
9:43
Jane Boursaw: Lots of talk about good and evil, what’s lost is now found…and then there’s Sylar’s ramblings while taking Claire’s brain apart: “How many angels can dance on the head of a pin…how do we make love last…” Heavy stuff!
9:46
Bob Sassone: Yeah, no way anyone who hasn’t watched the show can follow this, heh.
9:46
Jane Boursaw: Seriously. Still confused here… Wasn’t Nikki in the explosion at the end of last season?
9:49
Jane Boursaw: It seems like they’re trying to tie in the evil in the world (terrorists?) and make some sort of big-picture statement. I guess that’s been the case all along.
9:49
Jane Boursaw: Ugh. Ok, scorpion on the face! Scorpion on the face!
9:50
Jane Boursaw: Hiro’s getting the picture that maybe it’s not a good thing to go back in time…
9:51
Jane Boursaw: Then again, maybe it is…
9:51
Bob Sassone: Why doesn’t Hiro just go back in time to before he opened the safe? Wouldn’t have a plot then I guess…
9:52
Jane Boursaw: We should email the writers right now.
9:54
Jane Boursaw: Ok, Mommy. Or, Mommy Dearest, that is.
9:56
Jane Boursaw: Ok, I get it now. It’s all about the apocalypse. Or something.
9:57
Jane Boursaw: Mohinder: “I’m alive! I’m alive!”
9:58
Jane Boursaw: Ok, moving right along to the next episode: “Chapter Two: The Butterfly Effect”
9:59
Jane Boursaw: Man, the heroes are dropping like flies…
10:01
Jane Boursaw: It’s all very M. Night Shyamalan…in the early days when his movies were actually good, that is.
10:03
Jane Boursaw: It’s Super Suresh! “I’m stronger, faster, more agile…I have boundless energies!” I’m sure this will come to no good end. He’s already power hungry.
10:04
Jane Boursaw: Oh geez, I didn’t need to see the super-sex scene. At least they cut to commercial.
10:05
Bob Sassone: The sex and violence factor seems to be upped this season
10:07
Jane Boursaw: I think so, too. There’s been some pretty gory scenes. It’s making me hark back to one of the first scenes in season one, where those people were sort of hanging from the walls, all bloody and what-not, and Matt found the little girl in the closet.
10:09
Jane Boursaw: Ah, back to Elle and Bob… They have such an…interesting relationship…
10:11
Jane Boursaw: Don’t do it, Hiro! Don’t take him with you! It’ll only turn out bad…
10:13
Jane Boursaw: Ok, it’s got everything now…sex, drugs, politics, speed(y people)…where’s the rock ‘n roll…
10:14
Jane Boursaw: “If you can’t feel anything, do you still have a soul?” That’s the big question, isn’t it, Claire?
10:22
Jane Boursaw: So, is she Nikki or Tracy? Which is it? Inquiring minds and all that…
10:23
Jane Boursaw: Oh, Bob. Bob, Bob, Bob… The Heroes’ Bob, that is… :-)
10:25

10:25
Jane Boursaw: Such a tangled web we weave…

10:32
Jane Boursaw: Peter: How are you feeling? Nathan: Conflicted. That’s sort of how I’m feeling, too.
10:32
Jane Boursaw: Ok, so Peter came back from a future where people like them were hunted…
10:35
Jane Boursaw: Tracy/Nikki is Miss Freeze! Ah, it’s all coming together now…not…
10:36
Bob Sassone: So…William Katt is in this for only 4 minutes?
10:38
Jane Boursaw: Apparently so. And I’m seeing Bruce Boxleitner on the IMDB cast list for this ep. Did I miss him?
10:39
Bob Sassone: He’s the Governor (or whoever that boss of Nikki/Tracy’s is).
10:39
Jane Boursaw: Ah! I totally missed that.
10:40
Jane Boursaw: From Wired.com: “The heroes’ dysfunctional relationships that were spelled out in previous years add depth for longtime fans, but new viewers — and first-season loyalists who quit watching during the NBC series’ wayward second year — should be able to grok the basics quickly enough.”

I completely disagree; however, bonus points for using the word “grok”.

10:44
Jane Boursaw: Oh yuk. Sticky things on Saresh’s back. More gore.
10:44
Bob Sassone: Yeah, something’s going wrong with his power…SHOCKING. That’s what he gets for acting like a scientist in a 50s sci-fi flick and going to far
10:45
Jane Boursaw: Clearly, he’s been watching too many Mystery Science Theater movies.
10:47
Jane Boursaw: The Boston Globe agrees: “We also spend some quality time with Sylar, the show’s original ubervillain, who stalks self-healing Claire in a scene lifted straight from the horror-film playbook.”
10:48
Jane Boursaw: Matt is talking to a turtle. Is this jumping the shark, even for Heroes?
10:50
Bob Sassone: This episode is funnier than most.
10:50
Jane Boursaw: But talk about product placement! The tribal guy says: “No cell coverage here. Should have gone with Sprint.” What?!!!
10:55
Jane Boursaw: Claire’s mom is a fire-woman. Nice.
10:56
Jane Boursaw: Yipes. Let’s just set some people on fire, why don’t we…
10:57
Bob Sassone: Ooooooo, plot twist
10:57
Jane Boursaw: Hmmmmm….
10:58
Bob Sassone: Now we can all look back at the last two seasons to see if that even makes sense, heh
10:58
Jane Boursaw: I totally need to go back and review.
10:59
Jane Boursaw: So, what’s the verdict, Bob? Any thoughts on whether this season is good, bad, indifferent, so far? It all seems very apocalyptic to me.
11:02
Bob Sassone: I love it…seems more intense and focused than last year, even though there are more plots/characters than ever.
11:05
Jane Boursaw: This show certainly keeps us on our toes. We can’t just sit by and idly watch, or we might miss some major plot points. It’s definitely more intense, though I’m not sure about focused. Seems like the storyline was all over the place, but I guess that’s a characteristic of the show, overall. I need to watch it again – good thing it’s DVR’d.
11:10
Jane Boursaw: Closing the live blog out. Thanks for stopping by, Bob!
11:10
Jane Boursaw: And Keith! :-)
