Mystery Science Theater 3000: 20th Anniversary Edition (Limited Edition). OMG, when the publicist emailed me about this release, I emailed her right back and said I must have a screener copy! Yes, she’s aware of my obsessive adoration for MST3K. Housed in a cool tin box, this set features four of the show’s most requested episodes: “First Spaceship on Venus” (1960), “Laserblast” (1978), “Werewolf” (1996), and “Future War” (1997). Also includes four custom lobby cards, a figurine of Crow, and several bonus features, including the 2008 Comic-Con Reunion Panel, The Oral History of MST3K, original film trailers, and all six versions of the theme song. Buy it.
The 4400: The Complete Series. I started watching this on DVD a year or two after it premiered, and I was immediately mesmerized. Considering it was nominated for several awards, including three Emmys, it’s surprising that the show never really hit its stride in popularity. This DVD set is a great way to catch The 4400 fever. Buy it.
The L-Word: The Complete Fifth Season. Who knew a group of lesbians in L.A. could garner such a huge following? This sexy, soapy show proved that you don’t have to be a lesbian to get hooked on them on the tube. Buy It.
The Donna Reed Show: The Complete First Season. Can I mention lesbians and Donna Reed in the same post? Yeah, I think so. Though I don’t believe this show is airing anywhere on the tube right now (is it?), it’s still one of my all-time vintage favorites. It would be better if they released the entire series on DVD, but season one is a good start. Buy it.
Dark Shadows: The Beginning, Vol. 6. Well, it took six years, but with this DVD set, the entire Dark Shadows series is now on DVD. It’s amazing that a little cult show from the 1960s has such a huge fan base (but you’ll see why if you haven’t watched it yet). And did you know there’s a feature film in the works? Yep, with Tim Burton directing and Johnny Depp rumored for the role of Barnabas Collins, scheduled for a 2011 release date. Can’t wait for that! Buy it.
