Tonight on the tube: Election coverage, few alternatives

Comedy Central

Comedy Central

7:00p/6:00 Central

  • Maybe you’ve heard. There’s a Presidential Election in the US tonight, and coverage of it will pretty much consume ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and most of the major news cable outlets. Many of those have already started. Who will declare a winner first, and probably before all the polls close? Will anyone call it for the wrong candidate like they did in 2000?

8:00p/7:00 Central

  • If you get bored with watching the numbers come in all night long, you can always flip it over to The CW. They don’t really have a news team, so they’re sticking with 90210. Tonight, a sleepover turns into a house party as Annie releases her frustration about Harry’s son given up for adoption. ABC Family is also all new with Lincoln Heights.

9:00p/8:00 Central

  • Fox Reality Channel wraps up the first season of Gimme My Reality Show!, as the remaining contestants see who’s going to get their own show. Sci Fi offers up more physical competition with a new ECW.
  • A proposed biography of Laurel takes center stage on The CW’s Privileged.
  • Mike Rowe takes a Presidential look at some of the dirty jobs our former Commander-in-Chiefs have held on The Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs.

10:00p/9:00 Central

  • Comedy Central gets in on the election action with a combined Daily Show/Colbert Report Election Night 2008 special.
  • Reality alternatives include MTV’s Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Oxygen’s Coolio’s Rules, and A&E’s The Rookies. Sci Fi’s Scare Tactics wraps its third season tonight, if you want something scarier than who may be ruling the US come January. Or less, depending on your stance.
  • Fox Reality Channel is bringing back My Bare Lady with a special one-hour second season premiere featuring more porn stars trying to get legitimate business jobs.
  • We’re getting closer and closer to the end of FX’s The Shield. Only three more to go after this.

11:00p/10:00 Central

  • TBS offers up a new Frank TV, which needs to use up all of Frank’s candidate material tonight to still be “current.” Alternately, Spike TV offers up more Manswers, while WE’s Sex Change Hospital brings more stories of … well … sex changes.
  • But really, tonight is about political coverage, so you can watch these alternatives between your coverage network of choice.

Hello,

I just wanted to inform you that “Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod” which takes place in Alaska will now air on Fridays on the Discovery Channel beginning November 7th (please see below my signature).

Discovery Channel premiered “Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod” on Tuesday, October 14. The six-part series chronicled the historic 1,150 mile dog sled race from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska – over some of the world’s most breath-taking – and challenging – terrain. Now that the six-part series is coming to a close, I was wondering if you would be interested in advanced digital clips of “Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod” to post on your blog?

We also have two of the Mushers featured in the series available for interviews including Lance Mackay and DeeDee Jonrowe. Lance has won the Iditarod race twice, wearing the same bib (#13) that his father wore when he won in 1983. DeeDee, a pioneering woman musher, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. Three weeks after completing chemotherapy, she competed in the Iditarod, coming in 18th place. I’d be happy to arrange an interview with Lance or DeeDee. I have also attached the press release below my signature.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I’ll be in touch with you shortly to discuss your thoughts!

Best Regards,

Lisa

Rookie Darin Nelson becomes the latest musher to withdraw from the race — a sick dog team breaks his will to continue, and he chooses to scratch. Meanwhile the Buser family separates to allow former champion, Martin, a shot at the gold. It’s now a race to the coast along the mighty Yukon.

As Lance Mackey continues to break trail for rival Jeff King, the returning champ grows frustrated. He realizes that if this continues he won’t be able to outrun King to the finish in Nome. Mackey will have to dig deep into his bag of tricks in order to escape King’s game. Rookie musher Rick Holt tries to stay in the race despite a slew of beginner’s mistakes. Reaching his hometown of Unalakleet, Holt must decide whether he will carry on or succumb to the treacherous nature of the Iditarod Trail.
