The Osbournes’ or John Mayer’s variety show? – CliqueClack Poll

john mayer acousticAs if Rosie didn’t bomb badly enough with the revival of the variety show, now she’s got a couple of other celebs nipping at her heels, hoping to succeed where Rosie Live! miserably failed.

The Osbournes’ new variety show, The Osbournes: Reloaded, which was announced this summer, is soon to debut on FOX by late winter or early spring. It reunites the whole family — Ozzy, Sharon, Jack and Kelly — in a one-hour combination of music, sketch comedy, audience interaction and more. The first episode is in the can, having been filmed on December 7.

Now, it’s just been announced that John Mayer has his own variety show in the works for CBS, on which he aims to highlight “true talent;” surely this is a dig at Rosie O’Donnell’s fiasco of contortionists and dancing food. We’ll be seeing this show later this season as well, with a similar deal Rosie got — one episode, expanded to six if it does well.

So now, the real question is, which one of these variety shows would you watch? On the one hand, we may have a hokey romp or a completely bizarre experience, on the other, a classy show full of talent or a possible snooze-fest. Will either of these shows grace your TV screen?

“It reunites the whole family”

Well, sort of, because there is actually a second Osbourne daughter that refused to be part of any of the reality show shenanigans. It always struck me as completely bizarre. Can you imagine having to move out of your parents house because you don’t want to be on their TV show?

I thought it was a son??

From wikipedia (so all the usual Wikipedia caveats apply):

“In addition to famous Black Sabbath / Solo artist Ozzy, the show features his wife Sharon; his son Jack; his daughter, fledgling singer Kelly; and from the second season on, his semi-adopted “son” Rob. His other daughter, Aimee, has refused to participate in the show, and publicly criticizes her parents for their antics on the show. In most family photos shown on the show, she is either absent or blurred.”

It must’ve been the “semi-adopted ‘son'” I was thinking of. I had no idea there was another daughter!

I don’t think she moved out, at least not right away. I remember them saying that they just edited her out or blurred her face a few times when they couldn’t edit her out. Maybe she was just butt-ugly like Kelly and didn’t want to be on tv. And if I’m gonna watch a variety show, I wouldn’t mind seeing a Billy Crystal hosted one. He can do it all. I always watch the Oscars when he hosts. Hardly ever whenever someone else does. He always does a great job.

I have to say, John Mayer doing a variety show reminds me of that SNL skit with Andy Samberg doing “The Jack Johnson Show” or something like that, his guests were other “mellow” artists like John Mayer and Dave Matthews.
