Real World: Brooklyn – Baya needs to watch Flashdance

bayaAfter nine episodes, it’s clear who has separated themselves from the pack on Real World: Brooklyn. Ryan, Chet and Katelynn are easily the most interesting and entertaining. The other five cast members fall somewhere between dull and catatonic. No matter how creative the producers get in the editing room, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of redeeming qualities to extract from the majority of this season’s cast.

Scott is basically a wet noodle with a buff body. Devyn is a prima donna who sees herself with a movie career, a clothing line and a restaurant in five years (at least she’s aiming high). JD is a manic douche-bag who rubs everyone the wrong way. Sarah has a meek, don’t rock the boat personality. Which brings me to Baya. I like her a lot; she’s cute, has a good head on her shoulders, and all she wants to do is dance, dance, dance! Her biggest problem is she has no faith in her own abilities.

Baya has been kept in the background thus far. I think she could provide some serious punch, but she lacks the necessary self-confidence. She turned down an opportunity to enter a prestigious NYC dance academy because their methods intimidated the shit out of her. Ryan thinks she needs to grow a pair and get to work. I agree. I don’t know dick about professional dance, but after watching her strut her stuff, she seems more than capable. Look out Honey Daniels, Baya is comin’ for ya.

In order to do so, she’ll have to take a trip to Oz to get an injection of courage. She admits to being a scared little girl in the big bad city. At least she recognizes her faults. Like any artistic endeavor, it takes mucho sweat and tears to reach the mountaintop. That’s where Baya comes unraveled; she folds in the face of pressure and criticism. My recommendation is to kick back with a bowl of popcorn and the DVD of Adrian Lyne‘s 1983 masterpiece Flashdance.

All aspiring twinkle toes should be familiar with Alex Owens, the welder/exotic dancer with a heart of gold who turned Jennifer Beals into every teenage boy’s wet dream. Alex busted her tight little ass and took guff from nobody. I took the liberty to ship a copy of the movie to Baya, so hopefully she’ll give it a watch, be eternally grateful for my kind gesture, and pass along her phone number to me. I’m fairly certain I can cheer her up when she’s feeling low. What a feeling!

Your absolutely right about this cast. There are 8 roommates and most are boring or annoying. This group=fail.
