24: Jack Bauer battles biological weapons

24cover1This week’s episode of 24 certainly ramped up the tension factor. The show’s been getting more and more interesting to me each week, and this was my favorite episode of the season so far.

We’ve got a dead senator (Red from That 70’s Show), a psychotic corporate suit (Jon Voight), a dimwitted FBI guy (Larry Moss — does he not know that Jack’s saved the world about 53 times so far, and yet, he thinks he’s gone round the bend and murdered a U.S. senator?), a semi-truck with a cargo of leaking bio-weaponry, and a sickly Jack who’s been exposed and unable to keep a corporate chopper from lifting the cargo from the semi and flying off with it.

Whew. Lots going on there.

But what I really loved about this episode was the scene where Jack decides to try and save the security guy at the facility where the bio-weapon was being held.

As Jack fixed his gun on the guy threatening to kill the security guy, Tony said, “Don’t break your own rules. You may save one man, but what about the thousands of people who could die in a biological attack? Is this about you, Jack? Or about them? You want to prevent another disaster, or ensure that it’s gonna happen?”

So the scene is set, but Jack is determined not to lose another guy to collateral damage. It made me feel like Jack was evolving. Like maybe he’s starting to think you can have it both ways. You can save one man AND thousands of people.

What grabbed you about this episode?

The ending grabbed me the most, Jane. It goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway: Jack Bauer is truly one of television’s greatest heroes.

Ryan! (That’s my nephew, Clackers – still working on him to do a guest post.) Yeah, definitely a great ending. Hopefully, the hose-down he gets as shown in next week’s previews will keep him alive (well, he *has to stay alive since we know he’s coming back for S8). Unless he’s going to save the world from his hospital bed, which I’m sure would be no problem for Jack.

Yeah the Scene with Tony was the one that hit me the most. It’s like Bauer is not willing to take this anymore (finally!) and try to do everything he can to save everyone or suffer trying, like a real hero instead of an agent.

Jack Bauer & Jason Bourne best heroes ever

In that scene with Tony, I was actually saying out loud, “Save him, Jack! You gotta save that guy, Jack!”

I felt so proud of Jack when he saved the guard – the same way I felt in Season One when Tony rescued Teri and Kim (at that moment, I was shouting, “You’re a HERO, Tony!”)
