This week’s episode of 30 Rock featured a whole lot of Jenna, which usually isn’t such a good thing. In most cases, the supporting characters aren’t lead characters for a reason. It was also really strange to see Jack and Jenna spending so much time together. I have to admit, though, that I’ve really enjoyed the Janis Joplin subplot that’s been running through the season.
There were some funny Jenna moments in this week’s episode, particularly during the Kid’s Choice Awards, where she was mistaken for Dina Lohan.
I don’t know if it was just me, but this episode didn’t hit the same high notes as the past few have. I think a lot of it had to do with the lack of Jack and Liz scenes. The best part of the episode came when the two of them were talking over the phone, eliciting multiple Indigo Girls references. The whole subplot with Kenneth falling for the dancer was a little flat as well. I don’t know if the show was just trying to fit too much into one episode, but with three completely distinct storylines in play, none of them really soared.
Of the three, Liz’s was definitely the funniest. I enjoyed the bizarre montage of her day with the ladies of luxury, and the big reveal that it was all a fight club was funny as well. Luckily, we were left with a happy ending: Liz is no longer a workplace sex criminal and she’s back at work!
Some of my favorite quotes of the night:
“Do you need a sex tape released? Because I got a weird one. It’s nightvision and you can see that his buddy is robbing me.” – Jenna
“The Kid’s Choice Awards? Fine, I’ll set aside my feud with Raven Symone for one day, but she knows what she did.” – Jenna
“I’m on humanity leave.” – Liz
“Good God, what Indigo Girl’s song is that from?” – Jack
“Syllubus of Us, it’s off Vagabonds, Marytyrs and Quilts.” – Liz
“Believe me there is no solace in their luxury, only deep despair.” – Jack
“How do you know all these Indigo GIrl’s songs?” -Liz
Maybe not one of the best episodes as this season has been on a roll, but definately better than anything else on tv. And I have to disagree, Jenna is definately one of my favorite characters and the more of her the better for me. The orchestral version of muffin top definately my favorite part of the episode.
What? Jenna sucks and is the worst character everyone knows that.
