24 – Jack to Tony: Why did you betray me?

24_042009I’ve been grousing all season that we really don’t have a good enough reason for Tony to have turned so heavily to the dark side. Yes, we know his wife was killed as a result of both of their professions. Maybe not directly, but she wouldn’t have been killed had it not been for their jobs and involvement with Jack Bauer and CTU.

So when Jack pummeled Tony (my favorite scene) in last night’s ep and said, “Why did you betray me?” that’s exactly the question I want answered, too. A while back, Chloe said something to the same effect: “I know Michelle was killed, but….”

So my questions are:

  • Is Tony’s betrayal solely because of Jack?
  • Or is Tony just so darn ticked at the government and country that he’s just had it?

Other thoughts on this week’s ep:

It was pretty predictable. Especially when Kim was sucked into making friends with the bad guys and is now compromising Jack’s entire mission. She should have been more intuitive about it (especially because a guy was following her, even though she didn’t know it was Jack’s guy).

I’m still saying that “We’re running out of time” is being used in every episode. This week, Jack said it to Chloe when she was trying to find Tony’s location.

Jack’s doing remarkably well for having only a few hours to live, and his meds not really working anymore.

Appreciated the scene where Tony and Jack looked at each other and each said they had nothing else to lose (though Jack might not say that if he knew about his granddaughter).

Most of this season has been predictable boring for me, but things started to get interesting this week, with the biological weapon on the train, the thing with Kim in the airport, the ongoing geek showdown between Chloe and Janice, Olivia being freaked over Hodges’ death via car bomb, and Aaron’s reaction to it.

I look forward to seeing how things come together in the finale next week. I wonder if they’ll use Jack’s hours-to-live story as the hook to bring us back next season. I can’t imagine they’d find a way to get him back on the road to health in the remaining two hours.

Your thoughts?
