I am a creature of habit. I live my life by a schedule and I love it. I’m that type of person that likes a clear cut plan, knowing where I am going to be and when I am going to be there.
For most parts of my life this works just fine, but there is one thing that seems to be in a rut: my TV watching schedule. You see, I tend to watch repeats of Scrubs on Comedy Central from 7 to 8 every weeknight. This may not seem like such a big deal, and in the scheme of things it’s really not, but keep in mind that I’ve been doing this for more than a couple years now. Think about that for a minute. I think I’ve seen every single episode of Scrubs at least four or five times, save for the most recent season or two.
I could stop watching, I suppose. I mean, I like Scrubs, but I’ve never considered it to be one of the greatest shows in the world. I still enjoy the repeats, but I’m not sure if it’s about Scrubs anymore, or if it’s just become an ingrained part of my schedule. In any case, it got me thinking and wondering if I’m the only one who has a habit of watching the same show in repeats every night.
Do you watch those repeats of Friends or Seinfeld that seem to be on two or three channels at the same time? Maybe it’s one of the dramas that are rerun on TNT or USA? Before I started with the Scrubs habit, I used to watch repeats of Two and a Half Men. I look back fondly to when Angel and Buffy were rerun on cable networks in the evenings. I’m not sure why they still aren’t showing them. I would certainly welcome a daily dose of the Buffyverse. Other shows that I can remember watching in reruns before prime time include Newsradio, Saturday Night Live episodes from the 90s, and Conan O’Brien when he used to be rerun on Comedy Central (I wish they still did that).
So, what do you watch in the evenings before prime time?
Repeats? Oh, right, I guess that’s something that people watch if they don’t have a TiVo or DVR.
I usually use that time, when I’m making dinner, to go through the previous night’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” and “Rachel Maddow Show”, which make great radio, so I don’t have to be sitting in front of the screen watching it.
OK, sometimes I’ll watch a “2 1/2 Men” rerun, and later at night there’s always a “Family Guy” on one channel or another, and sometimes I’ll watch that.
I started watching Scrubs in that slot this year. Had never seen a single episode before that. Yes, even with TiVo, I still watch repeats.
Angel is on at like 6am Central.
6 AM? How did I miss those? ;-)
I like to watch The Simpsons or Friends during dinner depending on which is showing the old good episodes.
With all the free time I don’t have, I find myself watching JAG on HD Net.
I have occasionally been known to record Charmed in reruns for good fluffy background tv while cleaning and paying bills and the like.
I’m a big fan of both Reba, Still Standing, Frasier and Golden Girl reruns!
I recorded about 40 episodes of Monsters from 1988 on Chiller. Its taken me months of sporadic viewing, but I’m down to 15 now. Those cheesy programs hook me. I’ve watched so many 6-10 ep series on Chiller. I never watch the Seinfelds, Friends, or Scrubs types.
For background noise, turn on TBS all day long. With My Name is Earl, The Office, etc. hitting primetime TBS, too, they’re quickly becoming sitcom syndication central.
I used to watch Raymond every day on TBS, but then it got to where I have seen them more than 3 times each and I got tired of it. With that said I DVR Becker on USA when it comes on at 4 or 5am and I tend to watch Scrubs on Comedy Central and on the local stations if I don’t want to watch late night talk shows. Those are two shows I could probably watch over and over and over. Maybe Reno 911 and Chappelle too.
Just Shoot Me and King of Queens on TBS.
Occasional Simpsons repeats so old, the characters have gone from yellow to green.
I’ll also happily watch British comedy repeats like Are You Being Served?, Keeping Up Appearances, and others – for the 100th or so time.
This is so embarrassing! When I was in graduate school and coming home for lunch every day, I would turn on ABC Family and watch two episodes of Full House. I know it’s an awful show, but I just can’t stop watching it!
Luckily, I’m usually not home now when it’s on, because I would still be watching it every day from 11:00 to noon.
