Leverage – A hint of what’s to come?

leverage-080509

After being asked if he heard anything Hardison was saying to him, Eliot retorts: “You’re explaining how you’re still a virgin?” in response to the steady stream of geek talk Eliot was just subjected to

I’m watching this episode with an extra pair of eyes tonight — did you see Dean Devlin’s tweet? Somewhere, in the midst of this fun episode of Leverage, there was an Easter egg (I think I use that term so, so incorrectly, but I like it); a little clue as to what the summer finale has in store for us. Now that’s very cool.

What would be even cooler was if I knew what the hell he was referring to. I have some ideas, but it certainly wasn’t clear cut to me.

The whole premise of this episode was pretty funny to me. The team thought since they’ve dealt with mobsters, Interpol and everything else that it would be a piece of cake trying to get a loser kid to be good at something. Now, Sophie was integral to this con, specifically the fact that it is the only time that Nate can remember she ever told the truth. This is what I’m thinking may be the summer finale… we find out who Sophie really is.

This was some clever writing, though. Throughout the episode, I thought it was so funny that the poor kid Skyler kept getting made fun of. We were supposed to notice this kid because his name was important to the end game: that his father was involved. Very well done, the way they wove that in.

One other bit of clever writing, and one that may have something to do with the summer finale: the reappearance of the FBI agents from season one. We know they were in “The Wedding Job,” but they referred to “The Bank Shot Job” too (they shut down a meth ring during a bank robbery in CA), which was very cute. So will they be reappearing somehow in the summer finale, playing a big role?

Other fun stuff:

  • Parker trying to console the client at the beginning meeting: “It’s okay, we all do stupid things sometimes.”
  • Hardison has become Q — I love it.
  • The spelling bee. Everything about it.
  • Eliot doing karate with the kids

So, any predictions for what happens in the summer finale?

The were in “The Bank Job” as well, as the FBI agents that pulled in at the last minute to take over the case. Because “The Bank Job” aired before “The Wedding Job” we really hadn’t been introduced to them like we were supposed to, so we really didn’t make the connection.

They were supposed to be a running storyline (albeit in the background) last season where these two guys benefited from several of the jobs the team had done, causing a meteoric rise in stature within the FBI. I’m glad that they are picking up that line as best they can in the second season.

I love how the episode poked fun at the stupid names some people give their kids. Especially considering Beth Riesgraf’s son is called Pilot Inspektor Riesgraf-Lee.

I’m thinking that the agent that was into Parker will look into her and discover she doesn’t exist.
