Should have seen the ending coming with The Mentalist’s casting

Christian ClemensonIt wasn’t that long ago that our fearless leader pointed out that, should one cast a Cylon in something, it would be wise to use him.  It’s a maxim that has existed for millennium. Okay, more like a couple of months, but the idea has been around forever. Hell, just take a look at every piece of stunt casting the Law & Order franchises have done over the years, and you’ll get what I mean.

So, when Christian Clemenson showed up as Lisbon’s therapist this season, you had to know something was up. Was he going to be a recurring character, there to help out several members of the team like Adam Arkin (The West Wing) and Amy Madigan (Grey’s Anatomy) before him? Or was he going to turn out to be a creep like some of the roles he’s been known for in the past? Last night we found out.

I’ve got to be honest … I really didn’t see it coming, nor did I even consider the fact until he showed up at Lisbon’s place. I actually figured the breakdown in front of everyone was a by-product of the (obvious) drugging she had/was experiencing. For that to all be a part of the plan. How the whole thing came about, with the case that Lisbon was supposed to testify at, felt a little cute to me, though.

Speaking of plans, Jane always (well, usually) knows how things are going to come together. Hint to the producers: it’s a lot more fun with Lisbon in on the plan. Just sayin’. These two have a great, as yet non-sexual chemistry together. We’re much better served as an audience when they are on the same page.

Other stuff:

  • If I were asked to name 20th-century presidents, I would start at the present and work my way backwards (and not do nearly as well as I’d like to admit)
  • They couldn’t have used a reality show on CBS? I’m sure Hell’s Kitchen and FOX enjoyed the shout out
  • Any day that you have a Jake Busey sighting, it is a good day
  • Lisbon dances to the Spice Girls?
  • I don’t trust Bosco, despite (or maybe because of) his history with Lisbon
