“I’m Larry David. I happen to enjoy wearing women’s panties.”

- Season 7, Episode 8 - "Officer Krupke"

curb-your-enthusiasm s07e08 Seinfeld casting

Last night was definitely a strong entry from Larry David and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I was not only impressed with how cute most of the stories were, but also with how well everything tied together in the end. Plus we got Jerry Seinfeld!

It caught me by surprise in the season seven premiere to learn that Jeff was a serial adulterer, and I was glad that Susie was finally going to catch him after finding panties in his glove compartment. And yet I felt much more satisfied at the way things played out in the end; from foreign panties to stolen pants to West Side Story to lemonade — nicely done!

Of all people to blame, I can’t imagine why Jeff would finger Larry for the panties. And then not to even say that they were Larry’s from a tryst he had with a woman? It takes a special kind of mind to come up with that one, and it was even more impressive that Larry went along with it … I know this is fictional, but I wonder if Larry’s as cavalier with his public persona in real life.

Meanwhile, a fire alarm at Banana Republic forced Larry outside while he was trying on a pair of pants (who gets Banana pants fitted?), and of course he chose to leave and return later instead of waiting to get back inside. But why would he have transferred his keys and wallet into the pants he was trying on? Also, didn’t Officer Krupke first encounter Larry there? Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Larry point out the pants at the time? I did enjoy the debate over “lost” versus “gone” with the salesman.

And then there was the lemonade stand. That was just extremely funny, and Larry’s probably about the only person in the world who would have criticized the rat poison kids try to pass off as lemonade. And actually, I think he got off cheap at only one dollar per cup.

So when Larry singing “Officer Krupke” as he drove past the lemonade stand led to Officer Krupke showing up at Susie and Jeff’s door, which led Krupke to spot the pants, leading to the perfect opportunity for Larry to prove that he wore panties … awesome. And really, really funny.

On the Seinfeld front, Larry and Jerry held a casting call for the role of Amanda, George’s ex-wife. How Cheryl could even read for the part, having experienced the craziness for real herself, was an impressive feat. Although I didn’t really find her or Virginia (Elisabeth Shue) to be particularly good. And where were the literal thousands of actresses who would have come out to audition for a role in a Seinfeld reunion show? And I know there’s more to come, but I’m hoping to get something more from Jerry before the arc is over.

Also, I always feel like I learn a new tidbit of information on this show. For instance, now I know that there are only two ways to injure your neck: in a car accident, or performing cunnilingus. Who says television isn’t educational?

If ever there was a person that would transfer their keys and wallet to pants they are trying on to test them out, it would be Larry.

As for Virginia, I thought her audition was good, but more importantly it was enough to show that her read was much better than Cheryl’s.

Yes, that it was. :)
