If you didn’t see, this year’s cast photo was released this week. In a showing of complete lack of creativity, the minds behind the photo decided to set the cast in a last supper-like spread. This would have been a great idea if it wasn’t such a cliche at this point. If you don’t recall, there were similar photos released for Battlestar Galactica, House, and The Sopranos. It’s too bad the Lost minds couldn’t come up with something more original. I certainly liked the previous cast photos much better.
With that being said, however, there are some things to talk about in the new photo.
The blog at USA Today thinks there are a bunch of clues about the final season hidden in the photo, but I’m not so sure. In the past, I remember having similar discussions about the cast photos, but at the end of the day, these are really just promotional pieces. Sure, there are some things that we can conclude, but it mostly has to do with casting.
As the USA Today points out, Ilana is featured in the photo which would indicate that she will be playing a fairly significant part in the final season. With the way that last season ended, that shouldn’t come as a terrible surprise. I was excited to see Frank in the photo, as I’m a fan of the character and didn’t think that he was going to be featured much in the show after season four. His continued presence has been a welcome surprise. On the flip side, there’s no Desmond in the photo. As much as I love the character, I would rather the story not mess around with the happy ending that he received last season, even if it means seeing very little (or none) of Desmond in the final season.
Other than that, there’s nothing that I can draw from it. It certainly is a whole lot less complicated than the BSG photo from last year. Is there anything that you see? Perhaps if the photo were released earlier in the off-season, I would be more excited. We are so close to the final season now, all these teases just seem like a slap in the face — just give us the show already!
The reason hey did it, an as BSG & the Sopranos did it is because they know it’s the last season. Seems fair enough to me.
