Bays and Thomas, could you be bringing back the funny to HIMYM? – Open Letters

It's the season for love letters, and after the last two episodes of How I Met Your Mother, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays deserve one. I'm laughing again, and that's got to be good.

Dear Bays and Thomas,

I seem to write to you a lot lately. My mom taught me that writing thank you notes was the polite and proper thing to do when you really wanted to show someone your appreciation, so consider this note my heartfelt thanks.

Wow, I can’t believe I’m admitting this two weeks in a row, but I kind of enjoyed How I Met Your Mother last night. No, it wasn’t as good as last week’s episode, but I think you two have been reading my reviews and quite possibly may be listening.

“The Perfect Week” was a return to How I Met Your Mother‘s heyday
, and you’ve written in some patterns this week that have spelled success for HIMYM in the past:

  • More Barney. I’m so glad you finally realized that Barney is one of the reasons we all tune in every week. Sometimes, he’s the only reason. We love to see Barney as a dirty dog and we love to see him sweat. We got both this week, and for that I thank you.
  • Marshall was funny because he wasn’t Lilly’s bitch. The best thing about Marshall was that he kept digging at Robin and her obvious attraction to Don. In true form, you knew just how to milk the joke.
  • Clever gimmick. It was a fun surprise seeing Barney in the stands at the Super Bowl. It was legendary having that followed up in the episode.
  • Shocking moment. For me, it was when “Hot Chick” opened her beer bottle with her foot, complete with leg wrapped around the back of her neck. That was hilarious, although that leg was far too big for the girl.
  • Callback. Dudes, you brought back Naked Man, and I’m forever grateful.

I’m not saying that this was the best episode of HIMYM, but if the last two weeks hold, then you are on your way to bringing back the sitcom that we all loved for it’s quirky and innovative humor. Keep it up, guys!

Sincerely,

Debbie, perhaps no longer a disgruntled fan
