“Thursdays … *blech* … don’t you just hate them?” asks Cat Deeley of the So You Think You Can Dance audience.
Well … no. I don’t hate them. I don’t subscribe to your distaste for Thursdays, Cat Deeley. I find them rather eventful.
You see, the day after Thursday is Friday. And that means the weekend is practically here. One more work day and we’re home free to Saturday. On top of that, it’s Elimination Night on So You Think You Can Dance. Who could ask for anything more?
Besides, interesting stuff sometimes crops up during these elimination rounds. For example: You have to wonder if judge Adam Shankman might be sneaking peeks at postings here on CliqueClack. After all, he did make a rather interesting remark on last evening’s episode:
“… a lot of people thought we were sort of extremely harsh in our criticisms last night and I have to sort of just say for the record that no one — not us, not the choreographers and not the dancers — are above criticism and an honest approach to it …”
Interesting little comment there, hmmm? Kinda makes you wonder, especially in light of a lot of people — this reviewer included — having hinted the judges might just be brow-beating the dancers to bits with their critiques.
But onward with the show at hand. Cristina Santana is the first in the Bottom Three. I called Cristina out in my previous post as being one of the contestants to land there. And I wasn’t the least bit surprised by the announcement. But I actually “Huff!”‘d when Melinda Sullivan landed into that second spot. Shortly thereafter, Robert Roldan remained on stage to round out the Bottom Three.
But, before the reveal of who is to hit the road, we get another glimpse of fan-favorite Bryan Gaynor with his crew Remote Control on the program. (Video below and here.) The moves those guys make are a treat to behold.
The obligatory ‘dance for you life’ routines are performed by Cristina, Melinda and Robert. In the end, it’s Melinda (*whew!*) and Robert left in the competition with Cristina given the send off by the judges. I really don’t have a problem with this.
So you see, Cat Deeley? It’s nothing but good times on the second to last work day of the week.
Thursdays really aren’t so bad after all …

I would rather preferred see Melinda go than Cristina… i just don’t like how she dances… next week she’s a goner for sure.

NattyFF: I thought she danced swimmingly in her out-of-norm contemporary routine with Ade. I was struck by it.
I do believe there are others in the competition who are much better than her, but I’m going to enjoy her while she’s around for as long as she’s around.
I felt Melinda should have gone before Cristina as well. Then again, neither have/had a shot at the final rounds.
Just a small jab at the all-star guys, they don’t seem to be great team players for their partners like the all-star girls are. The all-star girls seem to be giving their all to every pairing.

Again, I’m going to point out the performance Ade did with Melinda. I beg to differ he went out for her and made her look spiffy in their turn.
One way of looking at it, bsgfan2003, is that the guys are making certain their partners are being showcased … and not them. Robert Roldan’s pairing with Anya resulted in Mia Michaels stating Anya ‘ate him alive’. I guess there’s always going to be a fine line along with the interpretation …..
Or I could correct. ;)
I’m starting to get worried that the at home voters are primarily 15 year old girls and they will systematically get rid of all of the girls no matter how badly any of the boys – BILLY! ADECHIKE! – dance. I was surprised to see Robert in the bottom three, but it seems the same rules of voting from American Idol hold true here – if someone gets too much criticism, they’ll get more votes out of sympathy. I’m glad that the judges will continue to have input into who stays and who goes so it doesn’t become a total popularity contest as it has been in past seasons (I’m still fuming about Jakob’s loss!).

There is something to be said for the judges having input, much as I would like to see the fans have the final say.
It’s not going to be a perfect system, but they may have it tuned to the best that it can be … voting 15 year olds notwithstanding …
