Sometimes when you watch Survivor, you have a pretty good idea who is going to be voted off by the editing and who gets the most time on camera talking about how good they are at controlling the game. This week Marty seemed to take front and center, which shouldn’t have been a surprise after his misguided attack on Jane at last week’s Tribal, but I felt that this was probably going to be the week everything turned for him due to his bravado.
Even after winning the reward challenge, which somehow got divided into men against women, Marty thought that was his best opportunity to hatch his plan to take out Jane. It was a brilliant plan on paper … or in Marty’s head … to tell everyone that NaOnka was the target so they could flush out her hidden immunity idol and blindside dear old Jane at the same time. It almost worked, but while Marty was wrapped up in his own arrogance he forgot to look around and see that Sash and Brenda were really running things. I almost thought Sash was going to keep Marty because he was the best cook (!), but Jane’s fishing success trumped Marty’s cooking ability.
Tribal Council was a hoot this week because NaOnka just let it all hang out. She went off on Marty and Fabio and left Probst practically speechless. And even after all of her expletives and blurred hand gestures, she still had the cojones to not use her immunity idol, but it was rightly pointed out that when you’re planning to take someone to the final two (or three), you take the one person who has rubbed pretty much everyone the wrong way at one point or another. Probst was probably right in his assessment that NaOnka would be sitting in front of him at the finals.
If anyone is a crafty player, it’s Brenda. She goes about camp rather blankly most of the time, rarely holding any meaningful conversations with anyone, mostly listening to and agreeing with whatever anyone says and then sneaking off to plan her attack with Sash. She’s smart, she knows Jane is a threat and not someone you want to go up against at the final Tribal, but she was smart enough to know that Marty was a bigger threat to her because he thought he held all the power. It will be interesting to see how the men who voted for Jane react to Sash’s vote for Marty when they get back to camp.
And speaking of getting back to camp, what was up with the preview for next week? That freaked me out and I want to see the episode now! Any idea what happened at camp?
