TV SHOWS COLUMNS FEATURES CHATS QUESTIONS

Poll: What are TV’s scariest episodes?

What's your scariest TV episode? Is it 'Dr. Who's' "Blink," 'Buffy's' "Hush," or 'American Horror Story's' pilot? Or, are you afraid of real life horror stories like Tom Cruise? Let us know what gives you nightmares!

Because CliqueClack Flicks is covering Halloween favorites,  we, at CliqueClack TV, decided to discuss our favorite creepiest TV episodes ever. After a quick roundtable, we discovered that Doctor Who‘s “Blink” topped our scariest episode list. But, episodes from The X-Files, Twin Peaks, and Buffy equally creeped us out. However, Michael was more afraid of episodes featuring human horror stories, like Tom Cruise. Is it just me or do the science fiction shows feature the creepiest and most memorable scary episodes?

Check out what the clique that loves to clack clicked below:

An: Hey Gang, what’s your scariest Halloween episode, scariest episode in general or scariest film shown on TV? For scariest episode, I’d vote “Hush” from Buffy.

Michael: The Tom Cruise episode of Oprah is not eligible because of the statute of limitations … right?

Bob:Beyond Life and Death” – The series finale of Twin Peaks was terrifying. A trip into the black lodge by Agent Cooper, as directed by David Lynch (who came back to make sure that all the bizarre lodge scenes were done correctly), it still gives me shivers.

Keith: I’ll nominate “Blink” from Doctor Who. I don’t normally watch the show, but that episode works so well as a stand-alone and is creepy as hell. So well done.

Brett: I would go with “Home,” from season four of The X-Files.

An: I totally agree about “Blink.” For the longest time angel statues in gardens freaked me out.

Katie: I agree with Keith — “Blink” is one of the most perfectly scary episodes of any show ever. If you’re curious about the show but don’t want to necessarily start with the pilot, “Blink” is a great episode to cut your teeth on. If I may suggest another Doctor Who episode for the poll, “Midnight” was both extremely dark and unnerving … so much so that I’ve only had the nerve to watch it once.

Bob: American Horror Story pilot.

Katie: I also have to nominate “The Empty Child“/”The Doctor Dances.” While the Weeping Angels from “Blink” are scary, the boy in the gas mask scared the crap out of me. I still get the hebee-jeebees thinking of the old man slowly sputtering out “Are you my mummy?”. Recently I saw a screenshot of him mid-transformation that terrified me. I think what this poll shows is that Doctor Who is the most horrifyingly scary show that also happens to have a huge child fanbase.

Keith: Just watched the next episode of American Horror Story (Tonight, 10/26) and it’s a contender for this poll. Pretty scary shit in it.

So, what’s your scariest TV episode, TV mini-series, or show in general? Stephen King’s IT and anything on the Twilight Zone used to creep me out major league. Heck, the re-run of House featuring a 25-foot tapeworm gave me the jeebies. Either way, let us know what gives you adult nightmares!

As much as Doctor Who’s “Blink” was a fantastic episode that left me jumpy afterward, the scariest thing ever was Tom Cruise on Oprah. I mean, they could have upped it by throwing in The Children of the Corn, but man! :o

Blink was an awesome example of how a show can be scary without being gory or over the top … still freaks me out when I watch it

The only TV show that really scared me, back from when I was a kid, was the living dummy episode (and to a lesser extent, the Talky Tina episode) of the original Twilight Zone. Apart from that, nothing on TV has ever really managed to frighten me. There have been plenty of tense moments, though; for instance, I enjoyed the suspense, mystery, and atmosphere of Harper’s Island (basically a slasher flick stretched out and cleaned up for a one-season series).

Hmm. I totally forgot about ‘Harper’s Island.’ Good call!

Blink is one of my favorite episodes, but Midnight was easily the most unnerving episode I’ve seen. It completely freaked me out! That and the Empty Child.

Blink was suspenseful but I wouldn’t call it scary. Empty Child was much more scary.

When I was a kid there was a tv show on called Circle of Fear. By today’s standards it would be considered very tame but man did that scare the beejesus out of me. That and the original Trilogy of Terror. I still cringe when I think about that little wooden doll with all of those teeth!

My brother saw “The Blob” when he was about 10 and it scarred him for years. To this day I can get his skin to crawl by reminding him of it…and he’s a Vietnam vet and US Marshal!!
